Laser Cutting and Engraving

laser cutter

Our cutting and engraving machine operates with a powerful laser beam. Laser cuts the material with high precision, providing lean and perfectly cut edges. The machine delivers maximum performance for cutting and engraving almost all types of materials.

The edges of laser cut plastic materials obtain a glossy finish - laser cut acrylic or custom cut plexiglass, for instance. It has a high degree of flexibility and can handle projects at any level of complexity. We even provide laser etching on wood for custom signs. This process displays any image on wood with a burnt effect. With its working area capacity, it can perform an equally accurate job on both large and small scale signs.

Laser cutting: The laser beam traces patterns onto the surface, leaving a beautifully cut and clean product. The laser cutting machine leaves a glossy effect on the edges of materials like acrylic.

Laser engraving: Besides laser cutting services, we also provide 3D laser engraving and laser etching services. The laser beam burns away or discolors particular surfaces with the needed depth. It provides a burnt effect on wood or leaves a matte finish on acrylic.

CNC Cutting and Engraving

CNC miller

CNC miller is a universal cutting and engraving tool for all types of rigid materials. The machine has X, Y, Z working dimensions. It’s ideal for geometrically simple as well as complex objects which can be milled with extreme details and accuracy.

Unlike the laser cutting machine, the CNC miller does not burn natural materials like wood and it provides a matte finish to the edges of plastic.

CNC cutting: No other cutting or engraving machine performs better on solid materials than CNC. With a CNC cutting machine, the needed product can be custom-sized, shaped and styled with unique and elaborate designs.

CNC engraving: CNC flat groove engraving and V groove engraving are widely utilized. Flat groove engraving can be used when borders or routing letters are needed.

V-groove carving is similar to flat but creates a channel that comes to a point at the bottom. CNC miller is perfect for creating 3D signs. It can engrave even the smallest details on almost any material.

Digital Cutting

For soft and plastic materials like foam board, PVC, styrene and more, we use a digital cutting machine. This is a computer-generated machine that provides die cutting and kiss cutting with sharp V-cut blades. It also provides creases with a 45-degree creasing wheel. Creasing is the process of leaving marked lines to allow for the folding of the material into a certain shape.

The digital cutting machine includes the following tools:

  • Pen, which can draw accurate figures on soft materials like magnetic sheeting, PVC, styrene, etc.
  • Universal cutting tools with different blades such as a kiss cutting tool, pneumatic oscillating tool, V-cut knife and also a creasing wheel for soft materials.

For cutting a certain design, it automatically detects the crop marks as a guide and cuts the material in the exact shape of the design. The process goes like this: with the help of a cropmark sensor system, it locates the dotted cuts and performs precise and accurate contour cutting. This is a one-of-a-kind machine that has the capacity to cut custom artwork. It minimizes material waste due to its speed and precision.

Materials

materials

We use only the best quality materials for our signs. Here is a list of most of the materials we use for sign-making.

Foam Board and Gatorboard – Both are soft materials perfect for interior signs. We offer digital and CNC cutting options for these two materials. Depending on the result you want, we will select the best option between the two machines.

Ultraboard – A  foam core material sandwiched between two plastic sheets. We offer only CNC cutting services for ultraboard materials.

Acrylic – We provide CNC and laser cutting as well as engraving services for acrylic. Both machines provide excellent results. The main difference is in the finish of the cuts. CNC provides a matte finish, while laser cut acrylic has glossy edges.

Lexan – It’s very similar to acrylic but with a higher degree of impact resistance. We offer cutting and engraving services with both CNC and laser machines. Cut edges on lexan have a glossy finish with the laser and a matte finish with the CNC router.

Aluminum, Dibond & Brushed Aluminum – All three are highly durable materials in the sign-making industry, though dibond is the most lightweight and affordable. Our equipment allows us to offer metal cutting services. We provide metal cutting and engraving with a highly accurate CNC machine.

Coroplast – Lightweight corrugated plastic material often used for yard signs. It’s stronger than glass and lighter than plywood as well as completely bendable. For coroplast, we offer cutting services with digital, laser or CNC millers.

Wood and Plywood – Two of the most common materials for engraved signs. Wood engraving is perfectly customizable whether it be for decorative or business needs. We provide laser and CNC cutting and engraving on wood. Engraving is a popular option where laser beams burn the wood, leaving a mark of your logo or desired graphics. The edges of laser-cut signs have a burnt effect. CNC wood engraving does not leave any burn effects on the surface but rather a clean finish.

PVC – A durable plastic material perfect for indoor and outdoor use. We provide laser, CNC, and digital cutting services for PVC materials. CNC engraving on PVC is also available.

Styrene – A more flexible alternative to PVC. We provide laser, CNC and digital cutting services for styrene. The CNC miller provides high-quality and extremely precise cuts. Thick sheets of styrene are cut with the CNC mill, whereas thinner sheets work best with a laser cutter (for example for cutting out stencils).

    Cutting and Engraving FAQs

    Q.

Is it possible for the laser cutter to damage the material?

    A.
No, the laser cutter will not damage the material. This is a non-contact technique of material cutting where the laser beam is fixed at a certain distance from the material and cuts the design using high-precision software. The heat of the laser is direct and has been tried and tested to assure that it will not damage the rest of the material at all.
    Q.

Can I bring my own materials for laser cutting?

    A.
Yes, you can bring your own materials and we will laser cut them according to your specifications. You can take a look at our chart for materials we work with or contact us to discuss custom projects.
    Q.

What is the cost for engraving?

    A.
The cost for engraving varies from item to item. Please contact us if you have any questions. We’ll discuss your project in full detail and offer you a free quote and consultation.
    Q.

Should I choose laser cutting over CNC milling for wooden decorations?

    A.
This depends on the final look you want to achieve with your decoration. The main difference between these two methods is that laser cutting gives a vintage-looking burnt effect to the wood. CNC milling offers a clean and elegant finish, while laser gives a warm and rustic appearance. Both methods are highly accurate even for the most elaborate designs.
    Q.

Do you laser cut multiple layers at the same time?

    A.
The majority of times, we cut only one layer at a time. This gives a cleaner look to the material. When laser cutting multiple materials at the time, it’s important to note that the materials may fuse together as the laser can melt certain materials.
    Q.

What can you engrave with a laser?

    A.
Logo signs, home signage, decorative and informative signage and beyond. Laser machines work especially well for cutting and engraving plastic, wood and plywood. In the case of acrylic and lexan, laser leaves smooth edges and engraved lines. When an acrylic sign is illuminated, the lines reflect the light. In the case of wood and plywood, laser engraving is akin to laser marking. It burns the material to create the desired depth and design, leaving a charred effect.
    Q.

What can you engrave with a CNC mill?

    A.
Logos and slogans, name plates, house numbers, creative designs and whatever else you can imagine! CNC can engrave aluminum, acrylic, lexan, wood, plywood and PVC. The machine leaves a matte finish on acrylic engravings and a clear finish on wood..
    Q.

Do I buy materials from you to engrave or can I bring you a product I already own?

    A.
Either is fine. Just contact us for details and confirmation if you plan to supply your own product or material for cutting and engraving.
    Q.

What materials do you cut with a laser machine?

    A.
We can cut various materials with a laser cutter  such as acrylic, lexan, wood, plywood, styrene, thin PVC and more. The laser leaves a different effect on each material so you can decide what type of look you are going for. Feel free to contact us for details.
    Q.

How does a laser cutter work?

    A.
Select materials can be cut with a high-powered laser beam. This process works by applying a laser beam directly to the surface of the material and directing it using CNC to create precision cuts or engravings. The laser melts or burns the material. It can leave a burnt effect on the edges and lines of materials like wood or glossy edges on materials like acrylic or lexan.
    Q.

How does laser engraving differ from CNC engraving?

    A.
CNC can be used to direct different methods of cutting like lasers, mills or even high-powered water jets. When we talk about laser cutting, we’re referring to a laser beam that is directed by the CNC machine. When we mention a CNC miller then the cut or engraving is done using a mill.
    Q.

Can you engrave special characters or symbols?

    A.
We can engrave any special character and symbol. No design is too complex, intricate or elaborate for laser cutting and engraving.
    Q.

Can you engrave photos and images?

    A.
Absolutely! We offer laser cutting, marking and 3D engraving. Contact our customer service team to get a quote.
    Q.

What is the dot size of the laser?

    A.
The minimum diameter of the laser beam dot is 0.3mm.
